Writing your dissertation can be hard (even for the most academic students) but, with this quick guide, we’ll show you how you can reduce stress and write a great piece of work.
At UK Dissertations, we have a vast amount of experience dealing with students who, just like you, are worrying about their dissertations. In fact, it is this experience which has enabled us to develop the following advice to help keep your dissertation period stress-free.
1. Remove distractions
This could be as simple as turning your phone off, keeping your room clean, or hiding your games consoles! Once you know that there is nothing else for you to do but write, you’re half way there.
2. Organise your time
Don’t start your dissertation at the last minute. Research takes a lot longer than you predict so make sure you start at least three months before your dissertation is due!
3. Break it down
A 10,000-word dissertation can be daunting but, once you’ve thought of your title and you’ve decided on the subject of your dissertation, it’s simply a matter of breaking it into sections. Once you’ve allocated 2,000 words between your introduction and conclusion, your word count for other content is 8,000. Split this into chapters of 2,000-3,000 words each and you can see how each section becomes manageable.
4. Don’t stop writing
Make sure you write something each day, even if it’s only one sentence. Each sentence will get you one step closer to your end goal and it’s still an achievement. If you are having trouble writing sentences and paragraphs, start with bullet points.
5. Don’t compare
Although your friends may be in the same class, course, or university as you, it does not mean that you will be equal in terms of work flow. Comparing how much work you’ve completed in comparison to someone else will only increase your stress levels. Stick with your own timetable and your own goals, not somebody else’s!
6. Think forward
Make sure you imagine life after your dissertation – it’s not going to be like this forever! Make plans ahead of time and think about the relief you’ll feel several months down the line.
7. Exercise
Working out to the point where you work up a sweat has been proven to reduce stress levels. A hot shower afterwards will also help relieve some of the tension you’re feeling.
8. Re-energise
Make sure you get enough water and healthy food during your dissertation period. If you’re in the library, take a packed lunch with healthy snacks to boost your concentration. Although it may be tempting to eat junk food, it won’t do anything for your brain stimulation. Watermelon and bananas are great snacks during dissertation period as they both contain vitamin B, which helps brain power and fights fatigue.
9. Don’t overthink it
When you start writing, make sure you don’t analyse every word or sentence that you write. Sometimes the best work will be made when you just write – editing comes later!
10. Ask for help
If you’re struggling, then make sure you ask for help. Your tutor will be your number one contact but if, like many students, you find that they’re unreachable or not offering the amount of support that you need, we can help. We have expert writers on standby who can offer help with dissertation titles, proposals, or full dissertations.
All work ordered is created on request, meaning it is plagiarism-free. You can simply use the work that our writers give you as a structure to help create your own work. Use the research and arguments in the work to help you develop your own ideas and enable you to write the dissertation you’ve been dreaming of.
